Mohaka was bred for improved early growth and cool season activity over the long rotation tetraploid Ohau. Mohaka is ideal for undersowing into run-out pastures, with AR37 endophyte offering increased protection against insect attack and providing improved persistence compared to Italian ryegrass options.

Mohaka can be used as a short to medium term pasture for sheep and beef finishing, as well as being a high-performance hybrid ryegrass suited to dairy platforms, undersowing and run-offs for high quality silage production. For a tetraploid hybrid pasture, Mohaka has good density for short periods of set stocking and winter grazing. It has a good spring growth habit while maintaining low aftermath seeding in summer helping with pasture quality through into autumn.
Mohaka with AR37 endophyte offers increased protection against insect attack and increasing long term benefits, however it is not suitable for deer and horse pastures. Mohaka AR1 is an ideal option for finishing mixes including deer pastures.
Dairy pasture mix
Mohaka has very strong spring production which makes it ideal for early spring pastures or part of a 3-4 year rotation in a run-off situation where silage production is a high priority.
